Native Species Plantings
Native species planting work advances the goals of the Vegetation Management Plan, including to:
- Increase diversity within plant communities with a focus on native species
- Improve habitat for pollinators, including the Monarch butterfly
- Improve habitat for upland gamebirds, water birds, and songbirds, including central-place foragers such as the western bluebird

April Planting: Students from the University of Idaho and Moscow High School Environmental Club planted nearly 1,200 native Palouse Prairie grasses and wildflowers at Virgil Phillips Farm County Park on Saturday, April 17. UI weed scientist Tim Prather's Plant Community Restoration Methods class grew the plants and led the planting of Idaho fescue, bluebunch wheatgrass, blanketflower, Oregon sunshine, and others. Increasing plant diversity at the site will attract more insects to nourish bluebirds nesting in nearby boxes.
